Bollywood’s Fighter Struggles to Soar at the Box Office Against SRK’s Pathaan: A Comparative Analysis

Bollywood enthusiasts eagerly awaited the release of “Fighter,” featuring the dynamic trio of Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor, on the auspicious occasion of Republic Day.

Now, six days post-launch, the action-packed spectacle is experiencing a lukewarm response, accumulating single-digit earnings. As per early estimates on Day 6 (Tuesday), it managed to secure ₹7.75 crore domestically, following a noticeable drop of 72.41% from Monday’s figures, which stood at ₹8 crore.

Upon its debut, “Fighter” soared to ₹22.5 crore, but the reviews were mixed. The Republic Day surge witnessed a remarkable 75.56% increase, pocketing ₹39.5 crore. However, the weekend brought declines, with a more than 30% drop on the first Saturday, earning ₹27.5 crore, followed by a slight uptick on Sunday, accumulating ₹29 crore.

The Siddharth Anand directorial has presently amassed ₹134.25 crore in the domestic market and a global total of ₹215.8 crore, with ₹64 crore from international audiences.

As the inaugural big-star extravaganza of 2024, “Fighter” stands in stark contrast to the preceding year’s blockbuster, “Pathaan,” released on the same day. On Day 6, “Pathaan” had already crossed the ₹300 crore mark domestically, reaching an impressive ₹307.25 crore. The film ultimately grossed ₹1,055 crore globally, with a stellar ₹657.5 crore in India and ₹397.5 crore in overseas markets.

Comparatively, “Fighter” faces a daunting challenge, considering “Pathaan” secured All-Time Blockbuster status within six days, breaking a prolonged dry spell in the Hindi film industry. Both films share a common release date on January 25, with “Pathaan” maintaining its supremacy at the box office.

The financial gap between the two is substantial, with “Pathaan” setting a formidable benchmark. With a budget of ₹250 crore, Shah Rukh Khan’s magnum opus achieved monumental success, signaling a resurgence in Bollywood.

Reports suggest that “Fighter” too carries a similar budgetary scale, adding to the anticipation of its performance in the coming weeks. As the battle for box office supremacy unfolds, “Fighter” finds itself in the shadow of “Pathaan,” striving to reach the pinnacle of success in the highly competitive Bollywood landscape.
