Abhishek Bachchan, in his latest film “Ghoomer,” directed by R Balki, takes on the role of Coach Paddy, portraying the mentor to Saiyami Kher’s character, Anina.

In a recent interview with Media, Abhishek delves into the intricacies of his character, shedding light on the challenges he faced in playing an alcoholic without consuming a drop of alcohol himself.

Abhishek’s Sobriety Challenge in Ghoomer

Despite the common practice of actors consuming alcohol to enhance the realism of drunk scenes, Abhishek Bachchan consciously refrained from touching a drop of alcohol throughout the making of “Ghoomer.” He explained that his decision was rooted in the unconventional portrayal of his character, Paddy, who remains most composed and lucid when under the influence. The aim was to flip the traditional portrayal of alcoholism, presenting the character’s normal state as inebriated and his abnormal state as sobriety. Abhishek emphasized that this choice posed a significant challenge for him during the filming process.

The Complexity of Paddy Sir in Ghoomer

Abhishek’s portrayal of Paddy Sir extends beyond the conventional depiction of an alcoholic. The actor aims to challenge stereotypes by presenting the character as in control and focused while intoxicated. The film’s unique perspective on alcoholism adds a layer of complexity to Paddy Sir, making it a noteworthy aspect of Abhishek’s performance.
