Jaya Jha, a CUET topper who is currently pursuing a BA (Hons) in Political Science at Hindu College, Delhi University, shares her valuable insights on preparing for CUET UG.

CUET UG Journey:

Jaya’s journey to CUET success is impressive. She scored a perfect 800/800 on the exam, and her academic track record is equally outstanding with a 95% pass percentage in Class 10 and a remarkable 99.5% in Class 12. Her performance in CUET UG 2022 set her on a path to one of India’s most prestigious institutions.

Effective Preparation:

Jaya’s approach to CUET preparation is commendable. She chose not to enroll in coaching classes, opting for self-study. She initiated her CUET preparation while simultaneously gearing up for her Class 12 board exams. Her strategy included creating comprehensive chapter-wise notes for all four subjects: political science, history, English, and psychology.

A crucial part of her preparation was ensuring that no details from the NCERT textbooks were left unexplored. Jaya meticulously covered the ‘boxes’ and ‘timelines’ found at the end of each NCERT chapter, which contain vital concepts and information.

Juggling two different exam formats was challenging, as the CUET is entirely in the multiple-choice question (MCQ) format, while the CBSE Class 12 second term exam is subjective. However, Jaya’s thorough preparation for the subjective exam proved beneficial for the MCQ format as well.

Choosing the Right College:

Jaya’s decision to join Hindu College at Delhi University was based on its esteemed reputation and infrastructure. The opportunities it offers to students pursuing political science are impressive. She also considered Miranda House and Lady Shri Ram College as her second and third preferences, showcasing her dedication to securing a top-tier education.

Jaya’s involvement in various college societies, including the Hindu College Parliament Symposium Society and TedEx Hindu College, demonstrates her commitment to extracurricular activities and leadership roles. Her recent entry into the college’s office of international programs further underscores her dedication to holistic development.

Advice for CUET UG Aspirants:

Jaya’s success comes with valuable advice for future CUET UG candidates:

  1. Consistency is Key: Maintain a consistent study schedule and stick to it diligently.
  2. Collaboration: Sharing knowledge and studying with a trustworthy peer can be highly beneficial. Team up and complement each other’s strengths.
  3. No Topic is Insignificant: Pay attention to every topic, no matter how small it may seem.
  4. NCERT is Your Bible: The NCERT textbooks contain essential content. Make them your primary reference.
  5. Strategic Skipping: If a question proves tricky, don’t get stuck. Move on to another one and come back to it later.

Balancing Act:

Jaya’s passion for reading, particularly fiction, had to take a pause as the demands of college life intensified. The implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP) meant more subjects to cover in less time. Nevertheless, her dedication to academic excellence and active participation in college activities showcase her commitment to a bright future.
