Netflix warned that if its competitors gain an advantage through the use of such technologies, it could adversely affect its ability to compete effectively and impact its operational results.

The report also emphasized the potential increase in exposure to intellectual property claims associated with the adoption of new and emerging technologies. Netflix expressed uncertainty regarding copyright and other intellectual property protection for AI-generated material.

Despite being in the early stages, generative AI-created entertainment is gaining traction. Notably, widely available AI tools can suggest storylines, character arcs, and even produce basic scripts. The 2022 film ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ is an example of generative AI utilization in the creative process.

Reports suggest the existence of generative AI systems capable of creating videos, and AI is increasingly used to provide data-driven predictions about viewer reactions to unconventional storylines. This technology’s rapid advancement raises concerns for Netflix and its counterparts.
