JetSetGo, a leading air services operator, has inked a groundbreaking deal worth over $1.3 billion, acquiring 280 hybrid-electric aircraft in collaboration with global aviation tech firms Electra.aero, Horizon Aircraft, and Overair. Unveiled at the prestigious Wings India 2024 aviation event in Hyderabad, the strategic partnership signifies a major leap in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) solutions for India.
These cutting-edge aircraft, totaling 280 with an option for an additional 130, are poised to revolutionize various aviation sectors, including airport transfers, regional connectivity, inter-city commute, intra-city shuttles, and urban air taxis. The deal underscores JetSetGo’s commitment to leveraging innovative air mobility solutions to enhance connectivity and mobility across India.
The collaboration introduces advanced aviation technologies such as electric and hybrid-electric propulsion, ‘blown lift,’ ‘fan-in-wing’ lift systems, and super-quiet optimal speed tilt rotors to the Indian market. JetSetGo views India’s unique geography and demographics as ideal for launching AAM, with the potential to bring about economic and social impacts similar to those seen in commercial air travel.
JetSetGo’s Founder and CEO, Kanika Tekriwal, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Our partnership with these three leading innovators will introduce unique technologies like ‘blown lift’ and ‘fan-in-wing’ lift systems, hybrid and electric propulsion, and super-quiet optimal speed tilt rotors to India.”
The company’s analysis identifies five key use cases for the AAM aircraft designs: airport transfers, regional connectivity, intercity commute, intracity shuttles, and urban air taxis. To kickstart the application of AAM to these use cases, JetSetGo plans to deploy hybrid-electric planes from Electra.aero and Horizon, utilizing existing infrastructure. Additionally, Overair’s Butterfly advanced electric eVTOL aircraft will be introduced for future urban air mobility applications as city infrastructure develops.
JetSetGo, founded in 2014, has become a prominent player in the aviation industry. With its current fleet featuring mid-size Hawker aircraft and various other aircraft types, the company’s foray into AAM positions it at the forefront of shaping the future of aviation in India.
