550 IndiGo Faced Flight Cancellations Soar as Chennai Airport Closes Amid Heavy Rain

New Delhi/Chennai: Chennai’s airport closure due to Cyclone Michaung’s intense rainfall led to the cancellation of over a thousand flights, including 550 by IndiGo and 10 by Vistara. The adverse weather prompted the airport to halt operations, causing significant disruption in flight schedules.

While the rain has ceased, Chennai grapples with floodwater clearance while the cyclone advances towards Andhra Pradesh.

Yesterday, Chennai’s airport suspended departures and arrivals due to inclement weather, causing numerous flight cancellations. IndiGo resumed its Chennai flights around noon today.

Cyclone Michaung unleashed relentless rain in Chennai, flooding the city and disrupting transportation, including train and flight services. The cyclone is anticipated to make landfall in Andhra Pradesh shortly. Additionally, Visakhapatnam airport is presently closed.

IndiGo faced further cancellations, grounding 60 flights today. Fifteen of their aircraft, including 10 A-320/321 and five ATR planes, remained stationed in Chennai following the airport’s closure due to waterlogging.
