Tata Motors, a prominent player in India’s electric vehicle (EV) landscape, has officially announced the launch of the Altroz EV in the coming year.
This electric hatchback, initially showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo, faced a delayed debut due to the overwhelming demand for Nexon EV, Tiago EV, Tigor EV, and Punch EV in the Indian market. The Altroz EV is now gearing up for a grand entrance at the 2025 Auto Expo.
Expect the Altroz EV to share key components with its Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) counterpart, encompassing design elements and features. Notably, it is poised to adopt the same powertrain options as the recently launched Punch EV, leveraging their similar dimensions. This strategic alignment positions the Altroz EV as a close kin to the Punch EV, promising comparable performance and capabilities.
As the Altroz EV hits the market, it is foreseen to face minimal direct competition. However, potential contenders may emerge from manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, Kia Motors, and Hyundai, all vying for a share of the electric hatchback segment within a similar price range.
The estimated starting price for the Altroz EV is projected to be around Rs. 12 lakh (ex-showroom). With the Indian electric vehicle market experiencing significant growth, the Altroz EV’s performance against its emerging rivals will be a compelling aspect to observe in this burgeoning segment.
