Honda is gearing up for a groundbreaking move in the electric vehicle (EV) arena, focusing on an electric sports car that will take center stage in its reimagined EV lineup. This development comes on the heels of the unveiling of two EV concepts at CES 2024 in Las Vegas.
Toshihiro Mibe, Honda’s CEO, revealed that intensive research and development efforts are underway for this electric performance vehicle, poised to become the flagship model of the 0 Series range of electric cars, expected to hit the market in 2026.
The electric sports car is not just a vehicle; it represents Honda’s commitment to cutting-edge technology. Emphasizing interior space optimization, minimizing battery weight, and enhancing efficiency, this model is set to redefine the driving experience.
Mibe assured that the development is progressing steadily, and the car’s design will feature a low-slung, cab-forward profile, a minimalist driver-focused cockpit, and a remarkably slimmer battery compared to Honda’s current EV offerings.
For propulsion, the upcoming Honda electric sports car will leverage an e-axle drive setup, integrating motors, gearbox, and inverter into a compact unit to maximize interior space.
In a conversation with Autocar, Mibe teased that Honda’s sports EV will offer a “completely different taste” compared to their previous performance cars.
The R&D program is intricately focused on crafting a unique character, promising an engaging driving experience that sets it apart in the evolving electric sports car market. Specific competitors have not been disclosed, keeping the anticipation high for this innovative addition to Honda’s electric vehicle lineup.
