2023 Tata Harrier vs. Kia Seltos (Facelift): A Mid-Size SUV Showdown

Published on

As Tata Motors gears up for the launch of the 2023 Tata Harrier, it’s time to size up the homegrown contender against one of its formidable rivals, the 2023 Kia Seltos. Both SUVs have undergone significant facelifts, and their features and designs have taken a leap forward. Let’s delve into the details to determine which one is the ideal choice in this mid-size segment.

The Background

The Tata Harrier made a significant impact when it entered the scene in 2019, largely thanks to its rugged SUV design and roomy interior. However, as time passed, the competition grew fiercer with the introduction of rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The 2023 Tata Harrier: A Fresh Face

The 2023 Tata Harrier sports a fresh and appealing look. Notable features include a clamshell bonnet, a parametric design grille, bumper-mounted projector LED headlamps, full-width DRLs, and striking blacked-out 18-inch wheels with aero inserts. Inside, the cabin exudes a modern vibe with a dual-tone dashboard, multicolor mood lighting, voice-assisted panoramic sunroof, and an intuitive 12.3-inch infotainment panel.

The 2023 Kia Seltos: An Impressive Facelift

Kia’s 2023 Seltos introduces a host of updates, featuring a sculpted hood, the iconic “Tiger Nose” grille, sweptback LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, and stylish 18-inch alloy wheels. The cabin is adorned with leatherette upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a premium Bose sound system, and a dual 10.25-inch screen setup for enhanced connectivity.

The Heart of the Machines

Under the hood, the 2023 Tata Harrier is powered by a robust 2.0-liter “Kryotec” diesel engine, churning out 168hp and 350Nm. This engine can be mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, delivering a combination of power and efficiency.

On the other hand, the 2023 Kia Seltos offers a choice of powertrains, including a 1.5-liter diesel engine (113.4hp/250Nm), a 1.5-liter turbo-petrol unit (160hp/253Nm), and a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated petrol mill (113.4hp/144Nm). These engines can be paired with various transmission options, from a 6-speed manual to advanced CVTs and DCT gearboxes, providing versatility and catering to diverse driving preferences.

Price Point

The 2023 Kia Seltos comes with a price range of approximately Rs. 10.9 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom) in the Indian market. While the exact pricing for the 2023 Tata Harrier is yet to be revealed, it is anticipated to start at around Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Verdict

Both the 2023 Tata Harrier and the 2023 Kia Seltos are compelling contenders in the mid-size SUV segment. The choice between the two depends on your specific needs and preferences. However, with its impressive overall design, robust engine, and modern features, the 2023 Tata Harrier holds its ground as a strong and appealing choice for those seeking a mid-size SUV that seamlessly blends style, power, and comfort.
